#metoo
From a very young age, I was made aware of the inequality between the Female and Male sex from watching the news every night so I wasn’t very shocked about the Harvey Weinstein allegations. What did surprise me was the amount of women in the performance industry who have been sexually assaulted and I was very proud of the young women who stood forward and shared their stories with the world. Being born as a girl, I am often subjected to forms of sexual objectification in my daily life such as I am constantly looked at by the opposite sex in a sexual manner which can be very insulting and also offensive, as I don’t view myself as a sexual object for men.

Everyday I am a victim of sexual harassment, my body is constantly looked at which makes me feel repulsed as a sixteen year old born female as well as the constant cat-calling I receive which has made me rather scared to travel to places without friends or family.
We watched this short Speech called “The Sexy Lie” which is a speech about sexual objectification. I learnt that sexual objectification is portrayed in many of our daily activities such as watching television, playing video games, watching music videos and also reading magazines.
After watching this, many of the female students decided to share their experiences with Sexual objectification in their daily lives. As predicted the male students became quite defensive and protective over their gender.
I worked with Kieran, Rosely, Michael and Mary on a piece about Abusive relationships. Our plot was very complicated and hard to understand at first but I think it became more clear over time.
Rosely was playing the part of a young teenage girl who was a victim of abuse by her boyfriend Josh(Kieran). Rosely’s friend(Me) is very dismissive of her bruises and tells her to stop making a fuss over nothing as people were staring at her. However, her true friend Michael is more concerned and tells her repeatedly to seek help and leave Josh. Rosely is visited by her guardian angel Tyrone who takes the form of Michael. He shows her the future like the famous Charles Dickens novel “A Christmas Carol”.Rosely is shown that Josh is cheating on her with her friend who turns out to be a fake friend as she plans for Josh to “Take care” of Rosely. Josh kills Rosely in a abusive attack and then Rosely is shown her funeral where Josh and her friend seem to show no emotion towards Rosely’s death. Rosely breaks up with Josh after seeing a new light and goes to talk to her friend to tell her about Josh’s abusive behaviour but her friend is too blinded by ‘love’ to see the truth.
The piece raises awareness about abusive relationships, showing that if something isn’t done then it will escalate to possible death.
